Objectiu de la convocatòria
The ERA4Health Partnership's "InterHeart" Joint Transnational Call (JTC) aims to support research projects that investigate the complex relationship between cardiovascular disorders and other diseases, as well as the impact of their treatments on the cardiovascular system. The call encourages transnational research collaborations to develop a deeper understanding of how different organ systems interact in both healthy and diseased states, with a particular focus on the cardiovascular system. Key principles of this grant include promoting responsible research and innovation (RRI), fostering international collaboration, and prioritising patient-centric approaches to advance knowledge, improve diagnostics, and develop more effective prevention and treatment strategies for cardiovascular diseases and related conditions.
Característiques principals
The proposals should focus on expanding knowledge and understand:
  • how CVD affect the performance of other organs/systems and/or their capacity to respond to treatments,
  • how disorders other than CVD affect cardiovascular system performance including response to treatments,
  • and/or how treatment for disorders other than CVD affect positively or negatively the performance of the cardiovascular system.

The Following are excluded from funding
  • Except for small-scale clinical studies up to phase 2, all other clinical studies are excluded in this call.
  • Proposals that are not dealing with the cardiovascular system or CVD.
  • Proposals that only study the cardiovascular system or CVD without studying the interaction with other organs, systems, diseases or the response to their treatment.
  • Studies on how CVD treatments affect the performance of other system/organs.
  • Development of therapeutics
  • Infectious diseases, even if studied with CVD

    Informació addicional
The call follows a two-stage procedure:
  • Pre-proposals should outline the research question, objectives, methodology, and consortium expertise.
  • Full proposals selected from the pre-proposal stage will be evaluated in more detail, including budget and implementation plans.
  • Requisits
    General Requirements:
  • The research must focus on understanding the interactions between the cardiovascular system and other organs during disease states. This includes how cardiovascular diseases affect other organs, how other disorders affect the cardiovascular system, and how treatments for non-cardiovascular disorders impact the cardiovascular system.
  • Proposals must demonstrate potential health and/or economic impact, and the added value of transnational collaboration.
  • Research should be conducted responsibly and ethically, adhering to all relevant regulations.

    Specific Research Approaches:
Proposals should include at least one of the following research approaches:
  • Mechanistic/experimental research
  • Identification and validation of biomarkers, including epigenetic biomarkers
  • Generation of digital disease models to study disease-disease or disease-drug interactions

    Consortium Composition:
  • Projects must be transnational and include a minimum of three and a maximum of five eligible partners from at least three different participating countries.
  • The maximum number of eligible partners can be increased to six or seven if the consortium includes one or two partners, respectively, from Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, or Türkiye.
  • No more than two eligible partners from the same country are allowed in a single consortium.
  • The consortium can also include a maximum of two collaborators. Collaborators are self-funded partners who do not request funding but provide added value to the project.
  • Each project must have a designated project coordinator who will be responsible for communication and management.
  • Early Career Scientists are encouraged to participate.
  • Dotació
Spanish partners request funding from State Research Agency (SAS) for funding of up to 800,000. Check the specific funders guidelines and conditions. The Grants and Contracts office can assist with this if requested.
    Durada
    Funding for 36 months.
    AVÍS IMPORTANT
The call is made at European level but each partner of the consortium is funded by its national funding agency and must follow its national funding rules (please see the Call text).
Due to the complexity of the call, if you are interested in submitting an application we strongly recommend that you contact the Research Grants and Contracts Office well in advance of the deadline.
