Objectiu de la convocatòria
The European Partnership for Pandemic Preparedness supports transnational, interdisciplinary projects that enhance scientific understanding of emerging and re-emerging pathogens with pandemic potential, helping to improve prevention and response to infectious health threats. This first call focuses primarily on SRIA Priority 1 (Accelerate knowledge in a coordinated and integrative manner), with particular attention to Action 1.1 (Increase knowledge on understanding, identifying and addressing therapeutic targets on pathogens) and Action 1.2 (Increase knowledge on pathophysiology).
|
Característiques principals
Proposals should address at least one of the following expected outcomes:
Identification of novel pathogen-specific molecular targets and mutation hotspots relevant to infectivity, survival and resistance.
Improved understanding of zoonotic host-pathogen interactions under the One Health approach.
Application of the "Pathogen X" approach to generate transferable knowledge across related viruses.
Identification and optimisation of therapeutic lead compounds with high efficacy and low toxicity.
Identification and validation of targets supported by data integration, modelling and vaccine-relevant antigenic structures.
Improved data integration and modelling to predict pathogen behaviour and therapeutic susceptibility.
Better understanding of molecular and cellular mechanisms of host–pathogen interactions, including human predisposing factors.
Development of advanced immunological assays, experimental models and preclinical studies linking host genetics to disease outcomes.
Proposals must focus on one or more viruses from the following families (or take a family-wide approach): Arenaviridae, Coronaviridae, Filoviridae, Flaviviridae, Hantaviridae, Nairoviridae, Orthomyxoviridae, Paramyxoviridae, Phenuiviridae, Poxviridae, Togaviridae, "Pathogen X".
Topics outside the scope include research on antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) pathogens, studies addressing SRIA Priority Actions 1.3 and 1.4, as well as clinical studies.

Requisits
Proposals must be hypothesis-driven and should have a strong emphasis on reliable and rigorous methodology.
Proposals must take into account sex and gender dimensions, and/or diversity aspects in their research plan/activities.
The consortium must include three to six eligible partners from at least three different participating countries, with at least two from different EU Member States or Associated Countries. In specific cases, the number of partners can be increased to seven.
It is permitted to include one external partner from countries that are not participating in this call, but only if own funding is secured.
Each partner is funded by its national or regional funding agency, following its own eligibility and financial rules. Investigators from HMRIB can apply for funding to the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII).
Double funding of the same concept is not allowed.
PIs must hold a PhD, may participate in only one project proposal per call, and those affiliated with an IIS can apply through their IIS.
Only one PI per beneficiary institution may be funded within the same proposal.
Spanish research groups conducting a clinical trial are recommended to include a representative from their SCReN or ECRIN-ERIC node in the team.
A pre-eligibility form is mandatory: PIs must send their CVA-ISCIII form by email before the pre-proposal submission deadline to [email protected]

Dotació
A maximum of two different partners requesting funding from ISCIII may participate in the same project proposal.
- Up to €220,000 per project if acting as partner
- Up to €275,000 per project if acting as partner with other partner
- Up to €300,000 per project if acting as coordinator
- Up to €400,000 per project if acting as coordinator with one partner

Durada
From 24 months to 36 months.

AVÍS IMPORTANT
The call is launched at the European level, but each partner is funded by its own national agency and must comply with the corresponding national rules. Due to the call's complexity, applicants are strongly advised to contact the Research Grants and Contracts Office early and to carefully review the call text and guidelines before starting their application.
