Objectiu de la convocatòria
HFSP Research Grants support innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems, emphasizing novel approaches and scientific exchange across national and disciplinary boundaries. The program prioritizes novelty, scientific merit, international and interdisciplinary collaboration.
|
Característiques principals
Research topics may include biological functions at all levels, from genes and molecules, biophysical properties and structures, intracellular and intercellular networks, to organismal, population, and ecosystem-level functions. Participation of scientists from disciplines outside the traditional life sciences is encouraged (e.g., biophysics, chemistry, computational biology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, nanoscience, or physics).
HFSP offers two types of grants:
RG-Program: for independent investigators at any stage of their careers to develop new lines of research through international and interdisciplinary collaboration. Applications including early-career investigators are encouraged.
RG-Early Career: for investigators who have completed one or two periods of postdoctoral training and have recently been appointed to independent staff positions, allowing them to initiate and lead their own research lines.

Requisits
All team members must hold a research doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) and lead a research group (of any size). Postdoctoral researchers are not eligible.
All team members are expected to work in different disciplines and have their labs in different countries
The team members should not have collaborated before, they will normally not have published together, and must propose a project significantly different from their ongoing research.
The Principal Applicant must be working at a non-for-profit academic institution in an HFSP member country. Co-applicants can be based in any country (including non-HFSP member countries).
A team should consist of two to four members, unless a fifth member is essential for the interdisciplinary nature of the project, and ideally include only one member per country. Priority will be given to intercontinental collaborations.
Teams with all members in one country and teams with more than one member affiliated to the same institution are not eligible. Different branches of the same university or organization are counted as the same affiliation.
Applications from individual researchers are not eligible.
All members of an RG-Early Career team must be within five years of obtaining an independent position and must have obtained their first doctoral degree (PhD, MD or equivalent) no longer than ten years prior to the LOI deadline.
No individual may be an applicant on more than one Letter of Intent in the same review cycle. This rule applies to all applicant roles for both grants.
Scientists cannot hold or apply for more than one HFSP award (Research Grant, Accelerator Grant or Fellowship) at the same time.
Applicants need to declare their use of AI and be aware that HFSP may use tools to determine if text has
likely been written by an AI tool.
