Objectiu de la convocatòria
This grant supports fundamental or translational research on the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of cancer. Projects should be based on a strong scientific hypothesis and may integrate epidemiological, behavioural, and clinical data. Multidisciplinary or cross-disciplinary approaches that foster innovation are encouraged.

Requisits
  • The PI must be employed at a recognised, non-profit research institution and have a contract that lasts at least for the duration of the requested grant, or provide evidence that their contract would be extended if the grant is awarded.
  • The PI is usually a PhD-qualified, tenured or tenure-track research group leader with at least three years of post-doctoral research experience. Other suitably qualified individuals (e.g., medical doctors) with relevant research experience may also apply.
  • Postdoctoral researchers with more than three years of experience are eligible to apply as PI or co-applicant. Applicants who are not yet independent must name their group head as co-applicant.
  • PIs who have established their first research group within the past two years are advised to add their head of department as a co-applicant.
  • Co-applicants must be at postdoctoral level or above and be substantially involved in managing the project.
  • A research group may submit only one application per grant round.
  • A project may be resubmitted only once.
  • Clinical research, including clinical trials, patient care, nursing, or healthcare delivery, is not supported. Other types of applied cancer research, such as policy, public health, or psychosocial studies, are also excluded.
  • Dotació
    The maximum budget permitted is £275,000, but most of the 3-year grants have a budget of between £200,000 and £250,000.

    Applications can be submitted from 5 March 2026 until the 500-application cap is reached or 2 April 2026 at 17:00 BST, whichever comes first. All proposals must be approved by the applicant's Head of Department and the Authorising Officer of the Institution.

    Once registered on the WCR grant system, applicants can begin preparing their submissions. Please note that a new grant management system is being implemented, and all users will be required to register on the new platform, even if they had an account with the previous system.
