This fellowship program is designed to support promising health scientists in transitioning from a fellowship to an independent, faculty-level position. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree and work under the supervision of a qualified sponsor.

Requisits
  • This fellowship is intended for individuals with some postdoctoral training who are preparing for a transition to an independent research position. Applicants must have received their most recent doctoral degree (PhD, MD, DMD, DVM, DO, or equivalent) no more than six years prior to the application deadline.
  • Applicants must not be currently serving an internship or residency.
  • Each applicant must be sponsored by a full-time investigator affiliated with an accredited institution, who agrees to supervise the applicant's training. The sponsor is not required to have expertise in diabetes; however, the proposed research project must be directly related to type 1 diabetes.
  • Fellowship research may be conducted at domestic or international institutions, including for-profit and nonprofit organizations, as well as public and private entities such as universities, colleges, hospitals, laboratories, and units of state or local government, and eligible federal agencies.

    Up to $95,000 per year
    Durada
    3 years, with an optional fourth transitional year.

    Applications must be submitted through the RMS360 online system and must include a research plan, a future career plan statement, a training plan statement prepared by the sponsor, and three letters of recommendation.
