Objectiu de la convocatòria
TRANSCAN-4 is a transnational call supporting multidisciplinary collaborative research on cancer metabolism. It aims to promote collaboration between researchers and clinicians and to support projects with translational relevance for cancer diagnosis, patient stratification, and treatment.
Característiques principals
Proposals must address at least one of the aims or sub-aims described below:
  • Aim 1: Enabling better cancer diagnostics and monitoring through metabolic biomarkers
    - Develop metabolic imaging methods to improve tumour detection sensitivity and specificity, and to support longitudinal monitoring.
    - Identify and validate metabolic biomarkers and signatures for cancer diagnosis, stratification, and disease monitoring, including structural, functional, molecular, and genetic markers. Digital biomarkers are eligible only when integrated with biological or molecular data.
  • Aim 2: Intercepting metabolic vulnerabilities to improve precision medicine
    - Identify druggable metabolic regulators and signalling networks to enable personalised therapy and improve outcomes.
    - Develop and evaluate new or repurposed therapies targeting metabolic vulnerabilities, alone or in combination with existing treatments.
    - Use advanced, clinically relevant preclinical models to assess therapeutic strategies targeting metabolic vulnerabilities.

    Informació addicional
The Partner Search Tool PartFinder is available to support the identification of potential consortium partners: https://partfinder.ncbr.gov.pl
    Requisits
    General eligibility criteria:
  • Only transnational projects are eligible. Each consortium must include 3 to 6 partners from at least 3 participating countries, with a maximum of 2 partners per country. Consortia including Hungary, Malta, Slovakia, or Turkey may include up to 7 partners.
  • Each consortium must include at least one basic or pre-clinical research team and one clinical team.
  • Each consortium must include at least one early-career researcher* (ECR) as principal investigator.
*Early-career researchers must have obtained their first PhD 2–10 years before the call deadline (after 3 August 2016). Eligible documented career breaks may extend this period, but the total time since the PhD must not exceed 11 years and 6 months.

    Spanish eligibility criteria:
  • Only two Spanish beneficiaries are allowed per project, and they must belong to different institutions.
  • The same beneficiary institution cannot participate with more than one partner in the same proposal.
  • PIs must hold a PhD, may participate in only one proposal per call, and applicants affiliated with an IIS must apply through their IIS.
  • PIs involved in an ongoing TRANSCAN-3 project ending after 31 December 2027 are not eligible unless they serve as coordinator in either the new or the ongoing project.
  • Spanish research groups conducting a clinical trial must include a representative from their SCReN or ECRIN-ERIC node in the team.
  • A national eligibility check with both agencies is mandatory prior to the pre-proposal submission deadline. Additionally, the PI's CVA-ISCIII must be submitted before submission.
  • Dotació
Spanish applicants must request funding from both funding agencies: the National Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII) and the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (FCAECC). Depending on the role and number of Spanish participants in the consortium, the following maximum amounts limits apply per funding agency and in total:
  • If there is only one Spanish partner: €110.000 (ISCIII) + €140.000 (FCAECC) = €250.000
  • If there are two Spanish partners : €120.000 (ISCIII) + €180.000 (FCAECC) = €300.000
  • If there is only one Spanish partner acting as a coordinator: €150.000 (ISCIII) + €200.000 (FCAECC) = €350.000
  • If there are two Spanish partners and one of them acts as a coordinator: €170.000 (ISCIII) + €280.000 (FCAECC) = €450.000
  • Durada
    Up to 3 years
    Documentació
The call will be implemented through a two-stage submission procedure. Pre-proposals must be submitted by the coordinator via the PT-Outline Electronic Submission System by 12:00 CEST on the deadline date.
    AVÍS IMPORTANT
This call is launched at the European level, but each partner is funded by its own national agency and must comply with the corresponding national rules. Due to its complexity, applicants are strongly advised to contact the Research Grants and Contracts Office early and to carefully review the call text and guidelines before starting their application, as documentation for the national funding agencies must be prepared before the pre-proposal deadline.
