Objectiu de la convocatòria
These fellowships support early-career researchers and clinicians in undertaking long-term research visits to institutions in another country to carry out basic, translational or clinical projects in the respiratory field.
Característiques principals
There are several LTRF schemes depending on the applicant's country of residence and destination:
  • Standard: for applicants residing in Europe and going to another European country, or applicants based overseas and coming to Europe.
  • International: for applicants residing in Europe and going overseas.
  • Scientifically Developing Countries: for applicants based in a scientifically developing country (SDC) and coming to Europe.
  • Joint fellowship schemes: applicants are classified under the relevant ERS scheme above, but may also qualify for joint schemes established between ERS and national respiratory societies or research organisations.

    Requisits
  • Applicants of all ages may apply, although the LTRF targets early-career researchers with at least two years of advanced research experience.
  • Applicants must hold a PhD or MD-PhD in a field related to respiratory medicine by the application deadline. Applicants without these degrees must hold at least an MD or MSc and provide evidence of two years of completed full-time research experience after obtaining their degree.
  • The fellowship is open to postgraduate scientists involved in respiratory science, as well as qualified non-MD healthcare professionals working in respiratory health or medicine. Applicants must be ERS active members or members of a national/regional respiratory society.
  • Mobility within the same country is not allowed. Applicants must not have worked or resided in the host institution or host country for more than three consecutive months during the three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Several applicants may apply to the same host institution, but only one applicant per department within the same host institution may be selected.
  • Applicants previously awarded an LTRF or RESPIRE fellowship are not eligible, and the same research project cannot be submitted more than once.
  • Projects may cover any research area relevant to respiratory medicine, including basic, clinical, epidemiological or applied health services research. A training component is encouraged.
  • The fellowship must be carried out full-time at the host institution, cannot be split into separate periods, and must not be undertaken remotely.
  • Dotació
    LTR fellowships include a living allowance, a child allowance, and a mobility allowance.
