Objectiu de la convocatòria
The first FORCE call supports international collaborative pragmatic clinical trials aiming to optimise diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for patients with rare and/or hard-to-treat cancers.
Característiques principals
Proposed projects should:
  • Address rare and/or hard-to-treat cancers, including rare cancers with an incidence of fewer than 6 cases per 100,000 individuals per year in Europe, and cancers with poor survival outcomes or high treatment-related burden.
  • Consist of interventional, prospective pragmatic clinical trials with clear potential for real-world patient impact. Early-phase developmental or translational research activities are not eligible.
  • Evaluate cancer-related diagnostic or treatment interventions already used in routine clinical practice in Europe, including approved, guideline-recommended, off-label or repurposing options, as well as pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Address practical questions not resolved by traditional trials, such as dose optimisation, treatment duration, sequencing, de-escalation, patient stratification or reduction of treatment burden.
  • Prioritise real-world relevance, with broad eligibility criteria, recruitment in usual care settings, representative patient populations and minimal additional burden for patients and clinicians.
  • Integrate patient-centred outcomes, with quality of life as a core outcome and prespecified PRO endpoints as primary, co-primary or secondary outcomes.
  • Include active and meaningful patient involvement throughout the project lifecycle, supported by a credible Patient Involvement Plan and formal participation of patients and/or carers as consortium partners.
  • Include a credible implementation plan explaining how positive trial results could support adoption into routine clinical practice, guidelines or policy.

    Informació addicional
Applications follow a two-stage procedure. Pre- and full proposals must be submitted by the Project Leader through the Fondation ARC electronic submission system. The system will open on 7 July 2026, and registration is required prior to submission.
    Requisits
  • The clinical study must be designed, initiated, conducted and sponsored under the full responsibility of a non-industrial, non-profit sponsor.
  • Proposals must describe a multicentre, collaborative clinical trial conducted internationally, led by a Project Leader from one of the funding countries and involving partners from at least two additional funding countries: France, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Latvia, Ireland and Italy.
  • Consortium partners must be academic, clinical or public health research groups, including universities, higher education or research institutions, hospitals, public health institutions, healthcare settings or health organisations.
  • Where clearly justified, applicants may request funding for external inclusion centres located outside the funding countries but within geographical Europe. Funding for these centres is subject to budget availability and cannot exceed 20% of the total requested budget.
  • Funding will be provided by one or more participating funding organisations and allocated after evaluation, based on proposal ranking, budget availability and funder-specific eligibility rules. National-specific rules may apply to the respective participating research teams.
  • For Spanish applicants, the funding organisation is the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association against Cancer (FCAECC).
  • Dotació
The estimated total budget is approximately €13 million, with three to four clinical trials expected to be funded. No maximum budget per project is defined; requested costs must be clearly justified according to the needs of the proposed trial.
