Requisits
  • The submitted projects should focus on the development and/or testing of novel Replacement, Reduction, or Refinement approaches for animal use in scientific research and/or education. Special consideration will be given to projects that further more than one of the 3Rs (e.g. Refinement and Reduction).
  • Applicants must have completed their PhD less than 8 years before the application deadline on October 15th 2022 (i.e. not before September 2014), but there is NO biological age limit for PhDs. Applicants, who have taken parental leave are eligible for an exception of the 8-year rule and can have an extention of one year for every parental leave (i.e. scientist, who has taken one parental leave should have completed her/his PhD not before September 2013); to be eligible the parental leave periods have to be clearly indicated in the CV of the applicant.
  • Applicants without PhD (i.e. BSc or MSc) are also welcome to submit an application if they are maximally 35 years of age by October 15th 2022 and must upload their BSc or MSc certificate. Young scientists from all nationalities and geographical regions are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants are employed by a research, teaching or an equivalent institution.
  • Funding is available to cover expenses directly linked to the proposed research project including, but not limited to, equipment, animals, consumables, transport, and travel expenses. The ART Award budget cannot include institutional overheads. Salaries or stipends are not part of the eligible costs. However, travel and subsistence costs for up to three months working visits to another group in another country can be requested as part of the regular budget, if duly justified. The maximum allowance for travel and subsistence costs is 2500€. Please note that Animal Research Tomorrow (ART) cannot enter any grant agreements/contracts with the host Institution as this ART Award is not equivalent to any grant by funding agencies.
  • Animal Research Tomorrow requires full compliance with the 3Rs, and use of the highest animal welfare standards. All research involving animals must be approved by an ethics committee or equivalent local regulatory body. Proof of the request for a license or a copy of a valid license for the proposed project must be uploaded as part of the supplementary PDF file.
  • Animal Research Tomorrow Awards must be acknowledged in all media (e.g. websites, videos, posters, presentations) and publications resulting from the project supported by an ART 3Rs research grant.
