EUROPEAN COMMISSION
The Human Brain Project (HBP) is a H2020 FET Flagship Project which strives to accelerate the fields of neuroscience, computing and brain-related medicine.
The HBP aims to bring a large number of users to the HBP-Joint Platform to make it even more attractive for the external science community and to foster new collaborations across the full width of the HBP’s Subprojects. To achieve this, a substantial amount of funding is available in the next two-year funding period (the SGA2) for partner organisations to help contribute.
The HBP is asking potential new Partners to submit proposals that will directly contribute to the development of the HBP Platforms and increase the scope of their application, in terms of neuroscience and clinical research. The selected Partners will become full Partners in the HBP Consortium. The projects will run from April 2018 to March 2020 (SGA2 phase).

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE
The mission of the FY17 PCRP is to find and fund research that will lead to the elimination of death from prostate cancer and enhance the well-being of men experiencing the impact of the disease. Specifically, the PCRP seeks to promote highly innovative, groundbreaking research; high-impact research with near-term clinical relevance; multidisciplinary, synergistic research; translational studies to support the fluid transfer of knowledge between bench and bedside; research on patient survivorship and quality of life; the next generation of prostate cancer investigators through mentored research; and research on disparities in the incidence and mortality of prostate cancer.

THE COMPANY OF BIOLOGISTS
The Company of Biologists' journals – Development, Journal of Cell Science, The Journal of Experimental Biology, and Disease Models & Mechanisms (DMM) – will consider applications for a grant towards the cost of running a small meeting within the fields of our journals. This would normally be a small budget, local meeting.

THE COMPANY OF BIOLOGISTS
The Company of Biologists' journals – Development, Journal of Cell Science, The Journal of Experimental Biology, and Disease Models & Mechanisms (DMM) – consider funding requests from the organisers of a range of charitable activities including – but not limited to meetings -workshops and conferences in the fields covered by our journals. Organisers may use a grant from The Company of Biologists in a variety of ways, for example to meet the expenses of a plenary or keynote speaker, assist with travel for early career scientists, or to reduce (or waive) registration fees.

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR CANCER RESEARCH (AACR)
The prestigious Pezcoller Foundation–AACR International Award for Cancer Research was established in 1997 to annually recognize a scientist of international renown:
  • who has made a major scientific discovery in basic cancer research OR who has made significant contributions to translational cancer research;
  • who continues to be active in cancer research and has a record of recent, noteworthy publications; and
  • whose ongoing work holds promise for continued substantive contributions to progress in the field of cancer.
The award is intended to honor an individual scientist. However, more than one scientist may be co-nominated and selected to share the award when their investigations are closely related in subject matter and have resulted in work that is worthy of the award.

    HUMAN FRONTIER SCIENCE PROGRAMME

The Human Frontier Science Program Organization (HFSPO) supports innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems, with emphasis placed on novel approaches that cross disciplinary boundaries.

Long-Term Fellowships (LTF) are for applicants with a Ph.D. in a biological discipline, who will broaden their expertise by proposing a project in the life sciences which is significantly different from their previous Ph.D. or postdoctoral work.

Cross-Disciplinary Fellowships (CDF) are for applicants with a Ph.D. from outside the life sciences (e.g. in physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering or computer sciences), who have not worked in biological fields before.

The HFSP fellowship program funds innovative, ground-breaking projects that have the potential to advance knowledge in the applicants’ field of study or open a new approach to a research problem. High risk research is supported.
