Horizon Europe – How to deal with Lump Sum proposals?

21/07/2023

The European Commission is introducing a new funding scheme in Horizon Europe called Lump Sums.

Lump Sum Grants are not based on reimbursement of the expenses incurred. Instead, payments are made only if the activities of the work packages are completed. This is a brand-new scenario in which we will need to draft very detailed budgets that will be linked to the work package structure of the project.

Please note that the following Horizon Europe calls are Lump Sum grants:

Health 2-stage calls closing on September 19, 2023
ERC Advanced Grants closing on August, 2024

Lump sums will require an earlier and closer interaction with the Research Grants and Contracts Office. Therefore, we are implementing a new circuit for Horizon Europe proposals: if you are participating in a Horizon Europe call, please contact Carol Barnwell (cbarnwell@researchmar.net) as soon as possible, so we can determine if your proposal follows a lump sum scheme or not. In case it is a lump sum, it will be necessary to schedule a meeting with the RGCO in which we will explain in detail how lump sums work and how we can help you.
